Art Thoms was an American football player who played as a defensive tackle for the Oakland Raiders from 1969 to 1976. He was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 1969 NFL/AFL draft and played a vital role in the Raiders' defense during his time with the team.
Thoms was part of the Raiders' legendary defense of the 1970s, known as the "Soul Patrol" which included Jack Tatum, Willie Brown, and George Atkinson. They were known for their tough and hard-hitting style of play, and were feared by opponents.
In 1976, Thoms was traded to the Green Bay Packers, where he played for two more seasons before retiring in 1978. Thoms was selected to the Pro Bowl twice and was named to the Raiders' 50th Anniversary Team as one of the all-time greats in team history.
Overall, Thoms was a key member of the Raiders team during their glory days in the 1970s and contributed to the team's success both on and off the field.
